SECTION 1.

Sir,

Foreign Office to Colonial Office.

Foreign Office, August 5, 1908. UPON receipt of your letter of the 20th June, an inquiry was addressed to the Board of Trade as to whether the draft Convention for the mutual protection of British and Japanese trade-marks in China and Corea could be communicated to the Governor of Hong Kong with a view to ascertaining the opinion of the commercial community in that Colony.

A reply has now been received from the Board stating that there is no objection to this course, and I am accordingly to forward to you herewith a copy of the counter-draft Convention drawn up by the Board of Trade, which has been sent to His Majesty's Ambassador at Tokio, with instructions to present it to the Japanese Government forthwith.
